FLOOD of 2008

Whew!  We survived!

Here's a little timeline and photo journey of our summer fun!

Week of June 9, 2008:  Volunteers came from everywhere to help sandbag the buidlings along Gilbert street.  THANK YOU  to all those who worked so tirelessly to help!!

June 12, 2008:  The flash flood of Gilbert street within 1/2 hour prompted a mad dash down the street to the U-Haul and we started loading up the contents of the center.  The water receded in the street when the rain stopped giving us time to move several truckloads.  We packed items into 3 PODS units and then Prince of Peace welcomed us into their facility for the summer.

Friday June 13, 2008:  The building was surrounded by water that morning.  All we could do was wait to see if damage had occurred.

Finally back into the building, the damage was overwhelming:

The gym

The front waiting area- we evacuated the fish!!

Water line on the front door

The water had stood at knee high for many days

Representative Loebsack listens to our concerns

Stay tuned for opportunities to volunteer your time helping us get the building ready for our children as soon as possible.

In the meantime, The Children's Center Staff, the generous Church of the Nazarine and their Pastor Michael, are committed to continue serving your children and providing them with ongoing therapies.

Thank you again for your patience during these transitions.

Our sincere thanks goes out to the Church of the Nazarine who opened their hearts and building to the Children's Center.
